New York state went into lockdown on Sunday, with all non-essential businesses shuttered, leaving just grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential operations open. The president issued new guidelines on March 16 aimed at slowing the spread of the disease over 15 days. Health officials there reported at least 95 coronavirus deaths in Washington state and nearly 2,000 confirmed cases Sunday. New York state accounted for 117 deaths, mostly in New York City. On Sunday, New York passed Washington state, the initial epicenter of the U.S. outbreak, in the number of fatal cases.
