Twenty-five per cent of teenagers, who need nine hours of sleep per night, sleep less than six hours on school nights. There has never been a time when the need for sleep education was greater than the present moment. Some of New Zealand's largest killers, heart disease, breast cancer and diabetes, have all been linked to poor sleep. Many studies suggest a two-way relationship between depression and poor sleep. By leaving sleep education unaddressed, we may be leaving children's lives on the table.
