In the two years since that column appeared, the U.S. government continues to tiptoe toward the normalization of the idea of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). In its news release, the Pentagon said, “the aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified,’” putting the U in UFO. The Pentagon went further in August 2020, announcing the establishment of an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) Task Force. It is increasingly respectable to acknowledge that unidentified aerial phenomena are a thing. ADFurthermore, it might be better for U.S. national security if these UAPs turn out to be ETs.
