The tragic death of Cian Marren who was killed by a driver running a red traffic light shows just why we need to learn the meaning of an amber light. Running red lights is like speeding “just a bit” over the limit, when that bit is scientifically proven to change the outcome for pedestrians or cyclists if they are hit. On Wednesday, James O’Brien, 37, of Kilbogget Grove in Cabinteely, Dublin, was jailed for four years after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing Cian’s death in Shankill on July 28 last year. The six-year-old had been anxious to press the pedestrian crossing button and when the green man came on, he stepped out onto the road, only to be immediately struck by O’Brien’s van.…
