'We can't prepare for everything': Vancouver police discuss threat of vehicle attacks


The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has been incorporating the threat of vehicle attacks in its security planning for large scale public events. "We do have heavy vehicle barriers that we have used recently, as part of our planning and preparations and execution of our operations plans for large crowd events," said VPD Sgt. Vancouver officials use heavy vehicles like city dump trucks to block key entry points during large-scale public events, such as the Celebration of Light fireworks display. She remembers feeling a heightened awareness of safety issues at public events after that.
