We are a family: Army takes tough stand against moral, financial corruption

Taking a tough stand, Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat has made it clear to his army commanders that cases of moral turpitude and corruption will not be tolerated, while asking them to deal very sternly with such cases. "The Chief of Army Staff has made it clear to army commanders that while dealing such cases, the officers or jawans concerned should not be spared and be given exemplary punishment," top army sources told Mail Today. Sources said in the cases of moral turpitude, even if the relationships are consensual, they will not be allowed as the top brass feels the force is like a big family and showing leniency in such cases may affect its moral fabric. To showcase the tough stand adopted by the army against such cases, sources said recently a major general faced charges of molesting a young officer and is about to be court martialled for it. A flag officer has also been punished for stealing affection of a brother officer's wife.
