Native people -- the Indians -- would be forcibly removed from their land, their fate a “trail of tears” and broken treaties. No, I’m not a romantic about our history and I harbor no idealized notions of politics and democracy. The American people forged a civilization: that thin veneer of civility stretched across the passions of the human heart. I will accept nothing which all cannot have their counterpart of on the same terms...(I am large -- I contain multitudes. The United States now has a level of income inequality unprecedented in our history and so dramatic it’s almost impossible to wrap one’s mind around.
