To this point, however, Waymo hasn’t publicly presented the court with any evidence that Uber actually knew what Levandowski did. Levandowski was recently demoted as the head of the ride-hailing company’s self-driving car unit. Uber’s attorney Arturo Gonzalez referenced the move Wednesday in court, as he argued that Waymo’s evidence in support of an injunction was lacking. Levandowski was a star in the self-driving car world for years. He joined Google in 2007, after helping Stanford University’s DARPA Challenge team with its autonomous vehicles, and was a core member of the Google self-driving car project from its inception, working with original team leader Sebastian Thrun and Chris Urmson.
