Shoppers were left scratching their heads after discovering the nutrition information on some Wattie's sauce didn't back up the label's reduced salt claims. Cans of Wattie's Lite Reduced Salt tomato sauce claim the product has 25 per cent less salt and a "less sweet taste" than the brand's regular recipe. Standard Watties tomato sauce has 475mg sodium per 100g. Despite what the nutrition information stated, the sauce sold under the affected labels really was 25 per cent lighter in sodium than regular Watties tomato sauce, he said. All other information on the labels was correct and shoppers with any concerns could double check the nutrition information on the Watties website.
