Watercare is planning to spend $57.5 million to recommission a mothballed dam in Hūnua to help in the fight against Auckland's water shortages. It is the smallest of the Hūnua dams and was originally designed solely to supply water to Papakura. “To put that in perspective, that 40 million litres a day would supply a city the size of Dunedin,” Watercare chief executive Raveen Jaduram said.
