Water shortage could cost Tegel millionsRobert Charles Tegel Foods may incur costs of up to $2 million after having to shut down through lack of water last week. Food giant Tegel is still working through the financial impact of closing its New Plymouth factory due to water supply issues, but the cost could be as high as $2million, it has been revealed. It started production again on Sunday after having to shut on Thursday due to a lack of water, she said. There was an ammonia leak from a valve on the chilled water tank at the New Plymouth production facility early last week. Tegel required a significant amount of water for its operations, so when the water supply was cut all primary processing was halted.
