After decades of Fox News dominance, the center of the conservative universe seems like it’s shifting to Twitter, a platform once viewed by the right as its chief social media nemesis. But it’s not just DeSantis’s purported announcement strategy that’s cementing Twitter as a centerpiece of right-wing media. Fox News has come under fire by both the right-wing base and its media ecosystem, largely for taking Carlson off the air. “At this moment, Twitter is the largest free speech platform in the world,” wrote Boreing in a Tuesday statement. He is instead holed up on Truth Social, a troubled social media start-up he helped launch after Twitter’s old leadership suspended his account in the aftermath of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
