Torontonians have gathered to hear the sounds of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival for more than 30 years. This year’s annual celebration was slated to run June 18 to 28 but like so many events, the festival was postponed due to COVID-19. Measha Brueggergosman performed at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival in 2014, and earlier this year released an album called “Measha Jazz,” which starts with jazz but includes classical, blues, gospel, funk, and francophone folk and 70s easy listening. But when Toronto Jazz spoke with Brueggergosman about a special collaboration between the Star and the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, she decided that, rather than feature a song off the recent album, she would create something new. An internationally acclaimed soprano, Brueggergosman has always blazed her own trail.
