Watch: Ferry crashes into harbour wall in Gran Canaria, SpainSCREENGRAB A technical fault has been blamed for the crash. Incredible footage has emerged of a car ferry, with 140 passengers on board, hitting a harbour wall on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. According to the El Mundo website, the Naviera Armas ferry suffered a technical failure as it left the port of Las Palmas on its way to nearby Tenerife on Friday evening at 8.30pm (local time). The fault caused a power cut on board, a spokesman for operating company Naviera Armas said on Saturday. The ferry hit underwater fuel pipes as it crashed, with emergency teams racing to contain a 3km oil slick caused by the collision.
