Just before 18:50 on Saturday night, the CCTV cameras on Barend Swanepoel, Ottosdal, recorded a huge flash illuminating the night sky. Did a meteorite hit South Africa? Luckily for our astronomical enthusiasts, there was nothing fake about this: A meteor did indeed land on the South African-Botswanan border. The closest we usually get to seeing a meteorite is when a shower comes our way. In fact, the next meteor shower is penned in for July 28, as the South Delta Aquarids put on a show.
