A recent study led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) found that immunisation dropped by around 20% in the first three weeks of lockdown. Dr Shamez’s warning come shortly after a study reiterated that a lack of routine immunisation during the Covid-19 pandemic could lead to outbreaks of other diseases like measles. The results revealed that while 65,431 children received the jab in the first four months of 2019, just 61,832 were vaccinated in the first four months of 2020 - a reduction of 3,599 children. Helen McDonald, who led the study, said: “If we end up with unvaccinated children there’s huge potential for a measles outbreak. It added: "If you know your child is due for a vaccination, it's best to speak to your GP surgery to book the appointment.
