Niwa has been recording seasonal averages for 111 years, but seven of the 10 warmest winters have all occurred in the 21st century. “2020 [is] a bit of a dress rehearsal for winters to come. Farewell Spit’s mean daily temperatures of 13C, which was 2.8C higher than the winter average, made it the most anomalously warm location in the country.
