The images are shocking – whole neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, hospitals overflowing with the injured, thousands killed, mayhem and abject misery everywhere. Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has been so intense even the colour of the strip of land has changed in photographs taken from space, going from yellow to grey and resembling a wasteland. The war has dominated headlines, divided communities and sparked mass protests around the world.
