War crimes tribunal's chairman Justice Anwarul Haque passes away

The 61-year-old breathed his last Thursday afternoon while being treated at Dhaka's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University or BSMMU Hospital. A High Court judge, Haque was appointed as head of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in 2012. In 2015, the two tribunals were merged into one, when Justice Haque was appointed to head the unified tribunal responsible for trying 1971 war criminals. ICT Registrar Shahidul Alam said Justice Haque was suffering from lung cancer. Born in 1956, Haque graduated in law from the University of Dhaka and started practicing law in 1980.
