Waqar, who took 373 Test wickets during his playing career, is now Pakistan’s bowling coach, overseeing a group including the 17-year-old Shah and Afridi, who is 20. Asked to compare them with Archer and Wood, the two fastest bowlers at England’s disposal, Waqar said: “All four of them have got different skills. They’re all very good in their own ways, they’ve all got pace. Pakistan I feel have got a little bit of an edge because, yes, they’re young, they’re probably not as experienced as Archer and Wood, but they’re probably a touch more skilful than them.
