Quentin Smith has won the Wanaka ward by-election, preliminary results show. The Queenstown Lakes District Council announced the result on Friday afternoon. The final result would be available early next week. Mr Smith is the deputy chairman of the Wanaka Community Board. A by-election would now be held for his seat on the board, as three seats were set aside for Wanaka ward councillors.
