more-inThe loans taken by handloom weavers up to ₹ 1 lakh from nationalised banks and district cooperative central banks (DCCBs) between January 1, 2014 and March 31, 2017 will be waived off, Minister for Industries and Commerce K.T. Rama Rao informed. Making a statement in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Rama Rao said 2,467 handloom weavers would be freed of debts with the scheme and the government will spend ₹ 10.10 crore for it. Similarly, loans of 1,018 powerloom weavers have been considered for waiver spending ₹ 5.65 crore, the Minister said. The Government has also created a wage compensation linked input subsidy scheme on purchases of all types of yarn.
