Wairarapa is the only tourism region in New Zealand experiencing growth in the last year. The White Swan Hotel is one of many Wairarapa establishments bucking national trends and holding the region up as a lone, shining star in a sector ravaged by New Zealand’s Covid response. When split into regional tourism operator (RTO) regions, Wairarapa enjoyed 2 per cent growth in the year until July 31, while every other area was well into negative territory.
