The first mainstream food products made from hemp seed and cricket flour are on sale in supermarkets. Wairarapa-based Breadcraft has launched a range of wraps made from the non-traditional ingredients under its new brand, Rebel Bakehouse. Hemp seed products have been cropping up on shop shelves since it was approved for food use late last year but have been limited to protein powder found in health food and specialty sections. STUFF More than two billion people around the world already eat crickets, Rebel Bakehouse spokesman Chris Petersen says. Petersen hoped that introducing hemp and crickets into everyday items like wraps could spark conversation about reducing the environmental footprint of food production.
