A Waikato foodbank say their community is struggling as they work to deliver hundreds of parcels out to stressed families each week. It comes as over 3000 more people access the unemployment benefit in Waikato due to the Covid-19 economic downturn. About 7.2 per cent of Waikato's population was accessing the unemployment benefit in May. Staff had seen an increase of people coming to the foodbank reporting job losses or significant drops in income. The floor polisher, carpet layer and musician said he was getting good work before Covid-19 hit, and is now "waiting, waiting, waiting" for work to come back.
