Two Czech Republic players won, with Kristyna Pliskova topping Spain’s Aliona Bolsova 6-2, 7-6 (4), and Denisa Allertova sneaking past Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6). Sevastova saved seven of the nine break points she faced in the 97-minute match, and she converted five of her 12 break chances. The Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova defeated Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-3, and Anna Kalinskaya beat Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 in an all-Russian matchup.
