Wall Street Journal reporter Will Mauldin was among those laid off in the Washington bureau. He had been covering the State Department and foreign policy. Prior to covering the State Department, Mauldin covered U.S. trade policy, including the trade war with China during the Trump administration. Prior to the Russia reporting, Mauldin wrote for SmartMoney magazine in New York, covering personal finance and consumer news. He began his reporting career covering police departments and crime for the Commercial Dispatch in Columbus, Miss., and the New York Sun in Manhattan.
