This is the submission Woman’s Place UK (WPUK) made to the Women and Equalities Select Committee (WESC) Inquiry into Reform of the GRA, submitted in November 2020. We appreciate the opportunity to provide evidence to the Women and Equalities Select Committee inquiry into reform of the Gender Recognition Act. 1.2 We broadly welcome the Government’s proposals in response to the consultation on the Gender Recognition Act 2004. Clarification of the definition of gender in the Gender Recognition Act is therefore imperative to avoid confusion and potential conflict of rights. 7.5 The proposed changes would make the process of applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate easier for the cohort of individuals whose needs the Gender Recognition process was originally designed to meet.
