Good morning: Happy Hallowe’en. Are those at the helm of the Financial Conduct Authority in for a fright? Andrew Bailey, the City watchdog’s chief executive, and John Griffith-Jones, its chairman, are due to appear before MPs this morning. Since taking charge of the treasury select committee this summer, Nicky Morgan, the former cabinet minister, has already: confronted the regulator over claims of political influence behind its proposals to amend stock market rules as Saudi Aramco considers where to float; demanded that it finally publish its full report into Royal Bank of Scotland’s scandal-hit turnaround division; and questioned when officials first became aware of a data hack at Equifax, the credit reference agency. and that’s not to mention her focus on Brexit and diversity.
