WIPO chairmanship reflects Vietnam’s growing statureThe election of a Vietnamese ambassador as Chairman of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) General Assembly, with the support of all member countries, has shown Vietnam’s growing stature in the global arena. Ambassador Dung was the Asia-Pacific candidate, which has not had a representative serve as Chairperson of the WIPO General Assembly for more than a decade. It successfully fulfilled its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2008-2009. It was elected as Vice President of the UN General Assembly in 1997, 2000 and 2003, and President of the 33rd UN Food and Agriculture Organisation General Assembly in 2005. It is now campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.
