Prime Minster Trudeau failed the optics test in ‘unnecessary’ We Charity scandal, July 30The Star’s coverage of the WE issue misses key points. I can readily see why he initially thought he didn’t need to recuse himself at the time of Cabinet approval. Secondly, I still do not understand the criticism that a program involving stipends for volunteer work needed to pay minimum wage. Thirdly, the Star and other media still have not published the facts cited about the “contribution” agreement that not only had careful separate accounting rules and reporting, but involved a net contribution by WE, not to WE. What was “unnecessary” was the notion of a scandal, fanned by all major media not fully reporting the backdrop or the facts of the agreement.
