Jones was scheduled to take charge of the encounter between Tottenham and Huddersfield, only to be forced to withdraw after suffering a calf injury before the game. Fourth official Kevin Friend stepped in to replace Jones and there were then calls in the stadium for a qualified referee to step in as Friend's replacement. However, Jones re-appeared from the tunnel early in the game, armed with a chair and a slight limp, to take up the fourth official duties from a seat on the touchline.
