Following a successful campaign in 2023, pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena was named the 2023 Philippine Sportswriters Association's (PSA's) Athlete of the Year. Obiena's parents Jeanette and Emerson received the trophy for their son during the Awards Night in Manila on Jan. 29, 2024.
