MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines’ Carillon Tower bells in Diliman, Quezon City, will again toll tomorrow, Sunday, in a call for media freedom and in solidarity with ABS-CBN workers who were laid off after a House panel rejected the broadcasting giant’s bid for a new 25-year franchise. UP Diliman has announced that the UP Carillon Tower bells rang on Saturday at 6 p.m. and will ring again at 7 p.m. on July 19. “This is to express the University’s call for media freedom and solidarity with the employees of ABS-CBN affected by the decision of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises to deny ABS-CBN a renewal of its franchise, voting 70-11,” it added.
