You don't need to vote with your feet, so long as you put your voting papers in the post by Tuesday next week. Returned votes for Nelson City Council, Marlborough District Council and Tasman District Council are lagging several percentage points behind where they were at the same time in the last three elections. For the past three years, about 52 per cent of the voting population of Nelson has returned their votes. So far Queenstown is beating them out with 17.81 per cent of votes returned there, which is a significant lag from the 24.76 per cent returned at the same time in 2016. Votes can be cast either by mailing completed forms with the supplied envelopes, or by taking completed forms to the Nelson council building or to a Nelson public library.
