It’s a currywurst sausage. Seriously – it’s labelled a Volkswagen Original Part with the number 199 398 500 A. However, in a bid to make Volkswagen more CO2-friendly, boss Herbert Diess is striking the sausage from the parts list, with vegan and vegetarian options taking its place. Pork is better than beef in the grand scheme of meat but cutting down on all meat production and consumption is a good move to lower CO2 outputs. Of course, there are other issues regarding plant-based meat replacement products but Volkswagen's vegan alternative is wheat-based, which is much lower in the kilo-of-CO2-per-kilo-of-product charts.
