Voith opens new facility in Ethiopia for hydropower projects


Global technology firm Voith has opened a new facility in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in order to support the regional development of hydroelectricity generation. The new Voith Hydro East Africa Hub will be used to carry out planning and coordinating activities with the projects located across nine countries in Eastern Africa. Voith Hydro CEO Uwe Wehnhardt said: “Voith has been supporting the development of clean energy generation in Africa since the 1940s. A number of Ethiopian hydropower plants are currently equipped with Voith technology, which is supplying clean and sustainable electricity to nearly 900,000 households in the country. In addition to Ethiopia, the company is providing its services to hydropower projects in other East African countries, including the Wanjii power plant in Kenya.
