The PM has made a mess of the pandemic from the start – recklessly slow to react, forcing virus carriers from hospitals into care homes, promising and failing to deliver PPE and leaving test and tracing a fiasco. While he parades himself in a cringeworthy pastiche of Churchill, Johnson ignores pleas from MPs to even formally recognise long-Covid’s scale. There needs to be more protection for the thin blue line, starting with fast-tracking tougher sentences for any assault and a guns crackdown.
