While normal life shuts down and we are keeping our distance physically, we can come together in so many other ways. Coronavirus is an attack on ­humans which will only be ­defeated by acts of humanity. It may have redrawn the map of everyday living, but in the face of a new spirit of solidarity this ­virus will be defeated. The disgusting, selfish and ­immoral acts of panic buyers and profiteers are treacherous in this period of effective wartime. As that ageless icon Dame Vera Lynn said yesterday: “Come ­together, look after one another, follow the Government’s advice – and keep smiling through.”
