Without their dedication, compassion and professionalism who knows how many more lives might have been lost to coronavirus? (Image: Getty Images)That is one of the reasons why the Mirror is campaigning for a medal for NHS heroes and volunteers. And it is why the country will be paying tribute to them this weekend as the NHS marks its 72nd birthday. Yet these key workers deserve more than our appreciation. Without action the country is facing a rise in unemployment on a scale not witnessed since the 1980s.
