The figures are damning: the number of people living in the streets has risen by 165% since the Conservatives came to power, more than 500 die sleeping rough each year, 82,000 households are homeless. Their stories are of people who have struggled with addiction, people with mental health problems and people with nowhere else to turn. All are responsible for the rise in rough sleeping and all flow from the cuts imposed by this Tory government. The Housing First strategy pursued in Scotland is transforming lives by giving people a secure home and support for addiction or mental health problems. If the Government is serious about tackling rough sleeping it should follow this approach.
