In an internal email to colleagues on Wednesday, legendary Vogue editor and fashion influencer Anna Wintour apologized for race-related mistakes of the past. We have made mistakes too, publishing images or stories that have been hurtful or intolerant. Earlier in the week Adam Rapoport, former editor in chief Condé Nast’s Bon Appétit magazine, was forced to resign after old photos of him in brownface circulated on social media. “But things are going to change.”Wintour’s comments are striking because of her reputation and profile in both the publishing and fashion world. “Recognizing it and doing something about it is overdue.”What exactly Wintour plans to do to make amends for those mistakes, however, is the real question.
