It may be that BT is looking to those sales to part fund 5G development. It’s the solution to the mobile networks’ biggest fear: becoming a dumb pipe. Until 5G mobile networks are like that too, but with 5G what you put into it might be a video stream and what comes out might be face recognition data, traffic flow or overcrowding warnings. While BT announced 5G plans, basking in the aura of Orange which became half of EE, it’s not as ambitious as Vodafone which has announced 3 July for 5G switch on and the not insignificant launch of 5G roaming. Vodafone will price 5G the same as 4G for both consumers and business customers.
