A condition of the sale was that “Ben & Jerry’s” would maintain an independent board and, most importantly to the actual Ben and Jerry, would manage the company’s social-justice branding. Over time, Ben & Jerry’s has been subjected to intensifying pressure to adopt, holus bolus, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction screed. When Unilever acquired Ben & Jerry’s in 2000 the deal also included a franchisee who produced Ben & Jerry’s products in Israel under license. I am neither a big fan of the Jewish settlement enterprise nor of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
