Vivarium industry, sparking new waves in fishing industry

SERDANG: The vivarium industry will spark a new phenomenon in the fishing sector, particularly for prospects in ornamental fish, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. He said vivariums were new to Malaysians, but were greatly popular abroad, especially in Europe. Vivariums are closed enclosures which can be used to cultivate plants and/or raise pets, reproducing its original ecosystem. Tajuddin said the ministry expected the demand for vivariums to annually increase with a targeted rise to RM250 million in the export of ornamental fish by 2020, which is equivalent to 120 million fish. He added, currently, the industry was rapidly progressing with the presence of vivarium equipment supply companies such as D-Tech Scientific in Georgetown, Penang and Urban Green Cabin Sdn Bhd in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.– BERNAMA
