more-inDespite widespread protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city passed off peacefully without any major incidents. Outside the airport, the protesters released black balloons as Mr. Modi took a helicopter to participate in Defence Expo. A few of them climbed a huge hoarding in front of the airport and waved black flags. In the afternoon, Sardar Patel Road was closed for a few hours as Mr. Modi visited the Adyar Cancer Institute. The Prime Minister avoided taking any public road during his five-hour trip, by the end of which over 3,000 protesters were detained.
