SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico lost ground in efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 as newly reported daily infections hit a record of 488. Three additional deaths from the pandemic were also disclosed Friday by state health officials as deaths surpassed 900. Michelle Lujan Grisham acknowledged the new milestone for daily infections and urged residents to recommit to stopping the pandemic's spread. The state's infection and positivity rates for the spread of the virus are climbing as the administration Lujan Grisham holds the line on a public health order that requires masks in public, bans gatherings of more than 10 people and restricts many businesses to 25% occupancy. A handful of elementary schools are returning to in-person instruction as most teachers and students participate from home.
