(Evelyn Hockstein/For The Washington Post)A Northern Virginia school district has said it will close Wednesday as staff members there join “A Day Without a Woman,” a national day of protest in which organizers urge female workers to stay home. School officials in Alexandria announced Monday that they would close schools Wednesday after 300 staff members requested that day off. Officials there attributed the high number of requests to the protest, organized in conjunction with International Women’s Day. The district did not say how many of those requests came from teachers, but the district of 15,000 students has about 1,400 teachers. [Is the ‘A Day Without a Woman’ protest elitist?]
