Virginia Tech police this week arrested a 19-year-old man on a weapons charge, a university spokesman confirmed Tuesday. Yunsong Zhao was arrested Monday and charged with one count of possession or transportation of certain firearms by certain persons, according to Mark Owczarski, a Virginia Tech spokesman. Zhao was a Virginia Tech student at the time of his arrest, but is no longer affiliated with the school. The station reported that Zhao, who lived in a Virginia Tech residence hall, had also researched bulletproof vests. In addition to the assault rifle, the warrant says this Virginia Tech student attempted to buy 5,000 rounds of ammo, was researching bulletproof vests and owned a former police vehicle.
