The suspect in the Virginia Beach shooting had resigned from his job in the city’s Public Utilities Department hours before opening fire in a municipal building, officials said Sunday. Virginia Beach City Manager Dave Hansen and Police Chief James Cervera described a large-scale, ongoing investigation into Friday’s shootings, which left 12 victims and the gunman dead. Four other people hospitalized in critical condition. The shooter fired indiscriminately and engaged in a protracted gun battle with police, officials said.
